Razorcat’s ITE supports tests for the electric drive of the CityAirbus

Razorcat's test tools support the electric mobility of the future: Razorcat's Integrated Test Environment (ITE), for example, is used in the Iron Bird test bench of the CityAirbus to manage the complex tests of the electric aircraft's drive system.

Thanks to the tool's automated processes, Airbus developers can minimize their test effort, manage the test data centrally and generate all the necessary reports – up to the complete verification of the performance limits and fault tolerance of the overall system.

The Iron Bird test bench contains the complete assembly of the CityAirbus electric drive system with eight motors, four batteries and two distribution centers. Razorcat’s ITE used in the test bench is specifically designed to manage large-scale hardware and software projects. The various functions of the integrated test environment make it possible to define, manage and link requirements and test cases and also to plan tests and test campaigns.

At Airbus, Razorcat's ITE also served in particular to document the process chain, starting with the test requests, through the execution to the final test report. The ITE Incidents Module contains an integrated, workflow-based process that simplifies the tracking of deviations. All test activities from acceptance and system integration were recorded in ITE and stored until the verification of the entire CityAirbus drive system.

"Airbus testing follows a very ambitious schedule, so ITE's flexible tool functionalities combined with the fast response times of our supporting team are critical," says Michael Wittner, Managing Director of Razorcat. "ITE is instrumental in the dynamic CityAirbus development, as the findings from the tests can be implemented quickly to further perfect the drive system."

Airbus recently announced new plans for a new CityAirbus. The fully electric vehicle is equipped with fixed wings, a V-shaped tail, and eight electrically powered propellers. It is designed to carry up to four passengers in a zero-emission flight in multiple applications.
