By inviting global innovators and highlighting the most cutting-edge technological solutions for the city of tomorrow, the Seoul Global Challenge 2021, hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, awarded Tallano Technologie and its TAMIC© solution. Tallano Technologie already works with public transport companies such as the SNCF and the Shanghai subway.

A public health issue

Tallano Technologie responds to a major public health issue. Thanks to an innovative solution for capturing at source the fine particles generated by the braking of vehicles (thermal and electric cars, buses, trains, metros), the start-up aims to help the automobile industry and public transport operators to combat fine particle emissions.

A first experiment by the City of Paris had been conducted in 2018 with this novel technology developed by the start-up, in collaboration: vehicles Renault Zoé had been equipped with a device to recover particles from the abrasion of brake pads.

Exposure to fine particles (PM10 and PM2.5) has been recognized as the 7th leading risk factor for death worldwide: it can cause acute respiratory disorders, lung cancer, as well as chronic cardiovascular diseases. In 2016, 4.2 million people died prematurely worldwide according to an OECD report published in 20201.

A changing European context

This recognition by the South Korean authorities comes in a voluntarist context at the European level. As part of the Green Deal, the European Commission has announced a proposal for stricter air pollutant emission standards for vehicles (Euro 7) to accelerate the transition to clean, zero-emission vehicles. Through this revision, and based on recent public health and environmental studies, the European Commission is preparing the introduction of stricter emission ceilings for regulated pollutants and the setting of limits for emissions from brakes.

The TAMIC© solution, an innovative patented solution awarded at the Seoul Global Challenges

The TAMIC® system is a universal solution adapted to railways, where concentrations in confined areas are 10 times higher than those found outdoors. It reduces fine and ultrafine particle emissions by up to 90%.

The TAMIC® technology, successfully tested by various car manufacturers, is adaptable to cars, trucks, buses and rail transport. In the rail sector, a full-scale experiment is underway with the SNCF (RER line C).
