  • Voith receives the "Factory of the Year" award in the category "Excellent Location Safeguarding by Digitalization".
  • After 1997 and 2017 this is already the third award in this competition.
  • Consequent digitization brings the Voith plants even closer together.

Due to the Corona pandemic, there was no festive award ceremony this year. Instead, representatives of SV Veranstaltungen and the management consultancy Kearney visited the winners to hand-over the prize in person. The event could be followed live on the Internet. The jury based its decision on the networking of the different plants, which is further intensified by the consequent digitalization. It also praised the young team with a high affinity for new technologies.

"We can be very proud of this award," emphasizes Dr. Mathias Mörtl, Executive Vice President & COO of Voith Turbo. "This is the official confirmation that we are on the right track with the measures taken. With the help of digital solutions, we are bringing the individual plants even closer together, thus achieving the efficiency of a large factory. This is crucial for securing our competitiveness in the long term".

To successfully master the digital change, Voith has established a team of experts for data analytics across all locations. This team bundles and evaluates the collected production data. This enables the causes of malfunctions to be identified quickly and future developments to be predicted. Digitalization also enables the company to manage knowledge, machines and production capacities globally. This leads to optimum utilization of existing capacities and increases efficiency throughout the entire production process.

"Our goal for the future is to use this momentum to further extend our digital lead. It is particularly important for us to involve our employees in the realization of new, innovative projects. We can only together drive the fourth industrial revolution at all levels in our factories", explains Silvia Kubiak, Senior Vice President Industrial Engineering at Voith Turbo.

"By digitizing the processes, we have created a self-regulating organism at our Munich plant that enables us to respond even more specifically to individual customer wishes. It is great to see how we as a team are enjoying our work and mastering the current challenges of the markets". Steffen Krippendorf, Senior Vice President AtO Plant Cluster at Voith Turbo.

The "Factory of the Year" is one of the most renowned European benchmark competitions for the manufacturing industry. Since 1992, the trade journal “Produktion” and the management consultancy Kearney have been awarding prizes to companies in various categories. In 2017, Voith received an award in the category "Outstanding Production Network" for the cooperation between the individual plants within a factory network.
