ABB Malaysia launches SACE Emax 3 air circuit breaker

For data centers, critical infrastructure and large commercial buildings, reliable low-voltage power distribution is becoming increasingly complex as loads grow and systems become more digital. ABB has expanded its air circuit breaker portfolio in Malaysia with the launch of the SACE Emax 3, a next-generation solution designed to address rising power density, integration and cybersecurity requirements in modern electrical installations.

The product was officially introduced by ABB Electrification’s Smart Power division in Malaysia on 28 January 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, following its global premiere at the Electrification Channel Partner Event held in the same city in July 2025. The local launch brought together distributors, panel builders, consulting engineers and end users, underlining the relevance of advanced protection and monitoring technologies for rapidly expanding power infrastructures.

Designed for data center and mission-critical environments
At the core of the SACE Emax 3 is its focus on applications where uptime, power quality and operational transparency are essential. The breaker has been developed to support large data centers, industrial plants and commercial facilities facing increasing electricity demand driven by high-performance computing and digital workloads.

The system integrates directly into digital power architectures, supporting centralized monitoring and control. Electrical parameters are measured with 0.5% accuracy, enabling more precise energy monitoring and power quality analysis at the main distribution level. These capabilities support operators in managing complex loads and optimizing system performance as capacity scales.

Predictive maintenance and advanced protection
The SACE Emax 3 incorporates built-in algorithms for predictive maintenance, using operational data to assess asset condition and anticipate service needs. This approach helps reduce unplanned downtime and supports more efficient maintenance planning compared with conventional time-based strategies.

In terms of protection, the breaker includes integrated arc-flash mitigation functions, addressing safety requirements in high-power switchboards. Expanded protection features are designed to support a wide range of operating scenarios, from standard distribution to highly dynamic loads typical of data center environments.

Cybersecurity integrated into power distribution
A defining feature of the new air circuit breaker is its focus on cybersecurity. The SACE Emax 3 is certified to IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2, making it the first circuit breaker to meet this standard. This certification reflects growing awareness that low-voltage power devices are part of connected industrial networks and must be protected against unauthorized access and cyber threats.

By embedding cybersecurity at device level, the breaker supports secure integration into digital power management and asset management systems without adding external security layers.

A platform for scalable electrification
By combining system integration, accurate measurement, predictive maintenance, advanced protection and certified cybersecurity in a single platform, the SACE Emax 3 addresses the technical requirements of modern electrification projects. It is positioned as a building block for scalable, future-ready power distribution architectures, particularly in data centers where electricity demand, digitalization and security considerations converge.

With the local introduction of the SACE Emax 3, ABB Malaysia expands its offering for mission-critical power environments, supporting operators and system integrators in designing electrical infrastructures that balance reliability, efficiency and long-term adaptability.
