GROWTH IN HYDROCYCLONE DEMAND DRIVES FURTHER INVESTMENT FROM MORGAN

Morgan Advanced Materials has made a further significant investment in its capability to produce high-specification ceramic hydrocyclone liners at its manufacturing facility in Rugby, Warwickshire, following unprecedented levels of demand from the oil & gas sector.

GROWTH IN HYDROCYCLONE DEMAND DRIVES FURTHER INVESTMENT FROM MORGAN
The investment involves the recruitment of five new employees as well as additional kilning and grinding capacity to satisfy increased demand from South East Asian and African oilfields.

Morgan produces hydrocyclone liners for desanding applications using Deranox® 975 alumina which is a ceramic specifically formulated for exceptional wear resistance with the additional benefit of high mechanical strength.

The hydrocyclone liners are manufactured using Morgan’s joint technology, which allows for their construction in two or three sections for lengths up to 800mm. Tests have shown that the joint interface is stronger than the ceramic itself, ensuring robust assembly and an extended service life. Liners can be accurately machined to effectively separate particles between 5 and 20 microns in size, enabling innovative solutions in internal swirl shape and product geometry. Morgan has seen increased demand for 1”, 2” and 4” hydrocyclone liners, however the company can provide bespoke designs to suit customers’ specific requirements.

Oliver Ridd of Morgan Advanced Materials explained: “With more than six decades’ experience in developing high-performance components from Morgan’s industry-proven materials, we are established as a true solutions provider to the oil & gas sector. Desanders play a key function in the separation process and components are subject to exceptional abrasion from solid particles within the liquid medium. This can cause premature failure of some materials, resulting in costly, unanticipated downtime and driving purchasers to seek other, more resilient material options. Our ceramic material offers superior wear resistance compared with the stainless steel and plastic grades typically used.

“In addition to supplying our Deranox 975 alumina products for new installations, we are seeing a trend towards our customers stocking spare liners to ensure parts are available for immediate replacement at time of service.”
