AVT Europe provides Audi with fourteen Automatic Guided Vehicles

Audi has ordered 14 AGV’s (Automated Guided Vehicles) at AVT Europe (VINCI Energies Belgium). These AGV’s will be used in the new warehouse of Audi in Ingolstadt, Germany. Every day about 1,500 pallets arrive and leave the warehouse with trucks or trains. Audi was looking for a solution to move these pallets through the warehouse with a minimum of forklift traffic.

The AGV’s are capable of carrying 1 to 8 pallets at the same time and deliver it in the warehouse with a surface 40,000m² per floor. As an extra challenge, there are 8 elevators to take the AGV’s between the two floors. They are developed to carry and transport up to 3500kg at a speed of 6 km/h.

There is a Lithium battery on board that makes it possible to charge the battery while picking up new pallets. The AGV’s can also be used as an internal taxi service to transport a pallet or component inside the factory by summoning it via a self-developed app or they can even be reserved for a specific time slot beforehand.

This project needs the AGV’s to function perfectly between forklifts, people, fire doors, elevators etc. Safety and navigation is crucial! That’s why the newest laser navigation will be installed, so the AGV’s will be able to recognise objects from their surroundings. This creates a very flexible setup that can be adapted later on through the provided traffic control system.
