GRS-H SERIES: THE NEW SOLID-STATE RELAYS BY GEFRAN

Official debut of the GRS-H mono phase solid state relays with integrated diagnostics by Gefran – the Italian multinational group specialised in the design and production of sensors, industrial process control systems, electric drives and automation components – to control electrical resistances in industrial heating. The new solid state relays, available with current range from 15A to 120A, stand out because of their ultra-compact and very sturdy design, as well as because of their aesthetic details, aimed at making all Gefran solutions recognisable among the other electrical panels.

GRS-H SERIES: THE NEW SOLID-STATE RELAYS BY GEFRAN

“Gefran was among the very first producers of SSRs in Italy, since the 80s. In this sense, the GRS-H products family is the result of the long-standing experience and know-how of the Company within the sector” stated Armando Lenza, Product Manager Controllers & Power Controllers, who then added: “During the project, the R&D team focused specifically on the details and size of the components. This brought to the development of a series characterised by its dimensions - the smallest on the market, especially in terms of width, with the objective of considerably facilitating the installation in cabinets with a reduced volume. Finally,” Lenza concluded “with the new GRS-H series our clients can rely on a comprehensive range of SSRs with integrated diagnostics, operating in synergy with Gefran’s temperature regulators”.

The series was created for heating applications, among which: extrusion lines and injection moulding for plastics, packaging machines, plants for glass thermal treatment or for food industry processing, drying processes, and climatic chambers. In these contexts, the timely detection of load breaking or other potential malfunctions of the control loop allows to both minimise machine downtime and to reduce waste, which would cause higher reworking costs. In this sense, on top of the Zero Crossing (ZC) switching, which is useful to control electrical resistive loads and reduce EMS interferences, the GRS-H series integrates diagnostics features as well as an alarm for overtemperature or load breaking. These functions, which are available for all models, guarantee a maximum production efficiency. Furthermore, the ZC (Zero Crossing) switching mode, provided either by the control system or PID temperature controller, is delivered as a digital signal of 6..32 Vdc or 20..260 Vac/Vdc, which allows to use the device in any industrial automation solution.

The accurate and efficient design of dissipators allows to install several GRS-H relays close to each other. Furthermore, by referring to the derating curve it is possible to further evaluate the installation distance to save even more space within the panel. In addition to that, the models from 90A to 120A feature a cooling fan which can be supplied directly by the module, with no need for additional external tension wiring. In this case, the fan only gets activated in the event of excessive temperatures, hence favouring a longer average working life and less maintenance interventions. Finally, another benefit of the range is the new push-in connection technology, allowing the wiring of control signals without using a screwdriver, thus further enhancing installation times.

“The use of solid state relays is the ideal solution for the reliable control of the process in several industrial applications, where it is fundamental to drive the load with very short switching times” stated Armando Lenza, who then concluded: “The launch of the new GRS-H series represents the starting point of a wider-ranging project, aimed at transforming the market through new applied solutions with enhanced performances, which are able to meet in advance the future needs of the industrial sector”.
