3D Manufacturing Simulation and Digital Twin Integration

Visual Components and NVIDIA have collaborated to integrate real-time rendering and digital twin capabilities directly into 3D manufacturing simulation platforms. The deployment of the FactoryLens viewport allows engineers to test large-scale factory layouts and physical AI systems without exporting models to separate visualization software.

System Architecture and Technical Integration
FactoryLens functions as a native viewport within the Visual Components simulation platform, utilizing NVIDIA Omniverse libraries to construct realistic digital twin environments. The technical architecture employs NVIDIA RTX for photorealistic rendering and NVIDIA PhysX to compute realistic mechanical and physical behaviors. Operators construct simulations utilizing an integrated library of more than 4,000 industrial components, which includes robotic arms, autonomous mobile robots, forklifts, conveyors, and specific production machinery.

Data Exchange and Workflow Optimization
The software integration eliminates the requirement to rebuild complex factory models in external visualization programs. Operators control material properties and physical appearances directly within the native platform while retaining the ability to record high-quality operational video. To support interoperability across different engineering tools, the system utilizes the Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) framework. This standardized data exchange protocol enables the export of factory configurations into compatible external environments, facilitating version control and multi-user collaboration across the broader OpenUSD ecosystem.

Physical AI and Synthetic Data Generation
The application of high-fidelity simulation supports the development and validation of physical AI systems in industrial automation. By combining open software frameworks with established simulation parameters, the platform provides the physical accuracy required for vision-based virtual commissioning. The system is engineered to execute synthetic data generation, which is utilized for model and policy training prior to physical implementation on the factory floor. Vikram Natarajan, general manager for Omniverse at NVIDIA, states that the integration assists engineering teams to "extend their workflows to new physical AI applications including synthetic data generation for model training and fleet-scale validation."
