PETRONAS and Iraya Energies Partner for Agentic AI on myPROdata

PETRONAS, acting through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has signed an agreement with Iraya Energies Sdn Bhd to integrate Agentic AI capabilities into the PETRONAS myPROdata platform. The initiative enhances access to Malaysia’s exploration and production (E&P) datasets, delivering autonomous insights to support capital allocation and attract international upstream investments.

Context of the Cooperation
Evaluating upstream hydrocarbon opportunities requires navigating vast, disparate datasets—spanning geological interpretations, seismic surveys, well logs, and existing production infrastructure. Traditional subsurface and surface evaluations often involve fragmented workflows that extend the timeline from initial exploration discovery to first production, creating friction for prospective investors and operating partners.

To address these data-intensive evaluation bottlenecks, cooperation was established between PETRONAS' upstream regulatory arm, MPM, and energy software specialist Iraya Energies. The partnership aligns with PETRONAS' strategic ambition to secure approximately RM50 billion to RM60 billion in annual upstream investments while halving the development cycle from discovery to first hydrocarbon from 100 months to 50 months.

Technical Solution and Responsibilities
The technical solution integrates Agentic AI workflows into PETRONAS myPROdata, a web-based data portal covering exploration blocks, discovered resource opportunities (DRO), and producing fields across Malaysia. Responsibilities are allocated between the operator and the software provider to establish a secure data foundation:

PETRONAS (MPM) provides the national upstream data repository—including extensive 2D and 3D seismic libraries, well logs, engineering data, and infrastructure records—while overseeing regulatory and investment alignment.

Iraya Energies serves as the Consortium Lead Integrator, responsible for establishing the technical architecture, commercial framework, and security governance required to deploy AI-driven analytics and manage the system rollout.

At a system level, the Agentic AI platform autonomously connects and analyzes cross-disciplinary subsurface and surface data. Rather than relying solely on manual query methods, autonomous software agents synthesize complex geological, geophysical, and engineering information to execute end-to-end evaluations. This functionality allows prospective investors to identify prospective acreage, assess discovered resources, and evaluate project development feasibility and commercial viability through a unified interface.

Datuk Ir. (Dr) Bacho Pilong, Senior Vice President of MPM, stated that the integration of Agentic AI will help investors assess Malaysia's upstream opportunities with greater speed and confidence. He emphasized that uniting trusted data assets with AI intelligence accelerates investment decision-making, supporting national resource development goals.

Deployment or Implementation
The implementation strategy focuses on rolling out the Agentic AI architecture across the live PETRONAS myPROdata environment. Under the lead integration of Iraya Energies, technical, commercial, and cybersecurity protocols will be established to deliver production-grade AI insights directly to international operators, E&P players, and financial investors.

The enhanced platform provides a streamlined digital entry point for evaluating regional assets, accelerating licensing rounds, and preparing field development plans. By reducing analysis latency and compressing upstream planning timelines, the deployment strengthens Malaysia’s standing as a competitive and future-ready upstream destination.
