Veolia announces that its hazardous waste treatment facility in Singapore has been granted today the countryӮs first license by the National Environment Agency (NEA) for treating aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) containing PFAS, as part of its innovative BeyondPFAS offering. This marks the first regulatory approval in Singapore for the high-temperature thermal treatment of PFAS-based firefighting foams, enabling Veolia to further support Singapore in environmental protection and proper waste management, particularly in the phased-out of firefighting foams containing PFOA, PFOS, and PFHxS, effective from 1 January 2026.
VeoliaӮs BeyondPFAS solutions represent a breakthrough in the treatment of targeted PFAS. From 1st January 2026, all companies storing or using fire-fighting foams containing PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, their salts and related compounds at or above their respective statutorily defined threshold concentrations are required to engage Toxic Industrial Waste Collectors (TIWCs) holding an NEA license to collect and dispose of such AFFF. VeoliaӮs licensed facility will therefore play a key role in offering compliant, safe and proven disposal pathways for these substances.
"This first-of-its-kind license from the NEA validates our advanced BeyondPFAS solutions and reinforces Singapore's position as a regional leader in environmental innovation," said Bruno Forissier, CEO of Veolia in South East Asia. "The Veolia BeyondPFAS suite of end-to-end PFAS Management solutions will enable industries across Singapore and the region to safely and effectively manage targeted PFAS-contaminated AFFF waste streams."
Key highlights:
- First NEA-licensed PFAS treatment solution in Singapore
- High Temperature Thermal Technology at Veolia's Singapore Hazardous Waste Treatment Facility demonstrates high destruction and removal efficiency for targeted PFAS through industrial trials. Results demonstrated high temperature incineration is a reliable and proven solution for AFFF management, with an efficiency of up to 99.9999% for the sum of the 3 POP PFAS (Stockholm Convention), as well as for the sum of all analysed PFAS
- Supports industries in meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations
- Contributes to Singapore's depollution and sustainability goals
The BeyondPFAS offer will serve various sectors in Singapore, including manufacturing, electronics, defense (both military and civil), and industrial operations that generate PFAS-containing AFFF waste. With this license, Veolia positions itself as a key partner to industries seeking compliant, sustainable, and affordable solutions for managing PFAS waste in the region.
